Dick’s Fine Wood is an artisan endeavour inspired by the forests and shoreline of British Columbia. This extraordinary environment ignites JJ Skidmore’s, a.k.a “Dick’s”, passion for shapes and textures found in coastal driftwood.
The environment that surrounds us is both beautiful and functional.
Living along the Pacific North West coastline, immersed in the elements, each sunrise, tide and the winds in-between, constantly inspire JJ’s deep appreciation of nature’s transforming force.
Dick's Fine Wood creates custom pieces from driftwood that showcase the beauty of nature and all of its elements. Fallen tree arms become transformed by the rolling tides, sand, rocks and shells, morphing the once dead tree, into its new form. Walking these beaches, driftwood speaks out - asking JJ to create something beautiful and useful, something that will only ever be one of a kind.

JJ believes that his custom works are objects created in the spirit of ‘beautiful utility’ and serve purpose in our daily west coast lives.
Dick’s Fine Wood custom pieces are created to celebrate + elevate the beauty we find in local food and fauna.
Dick’s Fine Wood also creates objects for everyday living, ranging from pendants and wall installations to large sculpture. The pieces are inspired by a belief that beauty is all in the details.

The pieces showcased here are examples of previous custom orders. JJ is continuously foraging and creating in his workshop. His work ranges in scope from ultilitian tools like an oyster shucker to serving boards and burled bowls, to axe-hewn anamistic carvings, so if there’s something you are seeking and don’t find here - connect with JJ!
This is Jigger.
Jigger is JJ’s constant companion on long beach forages and forest walks. The opportunity to both get outside and gather is fun for both JJ and Jigs even though they occasionally fight over the best sticks.
